They say that old people serve as role models to everyone…. BUT not anymore especially when it comes to buying cars. Guess who influences much the people in buying cars? You maybe right ain your guess and you may be wrong. The exact answer is – Car’s cool factors nowadays depend on the younger generation. Yes! The teens! They greatly influence our decision in buying cars.
We all know that these teens do not have the money to buy the new car they want. However, they can convince us parents or any older buyers what to buy and get. According to Rob Callender, that for years now teens have the complaint that they would not buy their father’s Oldsmobile or any old cars in that case and by the time the Olds offers a new line up for the younger ones it was already too late for it went out of business. By the way Callender is the spokesperson for TRU, a Northbrook, Illinois-based subsidiary of Research International USA that dedicates themselves in the buying behavior and trends of teens and 20-somethings.
This is the reason why several auto manufacturers are designing and some even created new cars for the new generation. Like Toyota created the Scion division and its fresh-looking vehicles to shun the youth from call of not the same cars their old ones used to drive. Callender said that the younger generation set the buying tone. They do not have the money the buy such good cars but significantly can manipulate us to buy these new cars. If they like this specific car for instance, the old will like it too. But if like us (old ones…but I don not consider myself too old…LOL) like the car, they might not. A 35-year-old will likely to buy a car that a teen or 20-something likes than a 60-year-old likes. Think of that?
Society before and maybe still now dictates that adults set as example for kids or teens to follow but now when it comes to buying cars, theses teens set the example for adults. This is the reason why auto manufacturers continue to focus on the youth market.
As for me, I have nothing against it. Actually it works. The teens serve as the gauge of the auto manufacturers in making cars for they are the ones who easily cope up with the ever changing world of automotive and technology itself. For me, I will consult Sid (my son) when the time he come of age (16 or 18) what car I should for him or four family. By that time, he will be very knowledgeable in terms of cars.
It is now time for us to trust our youth. You are asking about cars? Consult them. They may not be expert on it but their views really count. We do not need to worry…. Auto makers have put their trust on them already with coming out cars that depends on the taste of this group of people.
